How Not To Ask A Question

Do you think it's possible that this questioner is being just a little broad in the advice he/she is requesting? Maybe just a shade optimistic?

I sooooo love these "questions" that just "happen" to match such a broad span of EXACTLY the kind of info to be found in a given site...

Reminds me of the "letters to the editor" sections in second rate mags/papers: fake, most of them.

Yes, the questions range from the sweepingly broad to the very precise.

School assignments?

But the best of it:

In one of the links provided by JKB that points to 'Compiled PL/SQL by Donald K. Burleson' (http://www.praetoriate.com/oracle_tips_compiled_plsql.htm) the man says about native compilation in 9i:

"To turn native compilation on, you need to issue the following statement:

ALTER SESSION SET plsql_compiler_switches=NATIVE;"

instead of

ALTER SESSION SET plsql_compiler_flags=NATIVE;

Sad, but true.

Cheers.

Carlos.

Looks like something someone just cut and pasted off of a job requirement almost.

So often I see on different forums people asking for help who haven't even taken the time to look for the answers themselfs.

Something about giving a person a "fish" comes to mind.

Nah, he wouldn't stoop that low, would he? ;)

Actually I'd thought DKB would have told the OP that s/he cannot expect to get his homework done for him/her. He actually went through and provide links to various sites (including Oracle's) although most of them are links to his own set of sites & books.

Me think that the most important document that was missed was the Oracle Server Concepts Manual.

+1 for the fish thought, and +1 for the Concepts Guide.

Obviously a lot of effort went into answering the questions, but a lot of the referenced links seemed to be a shade off-topic to me,

Yeah, but that has always been the way with DKB. He provide links to his books/sites even when it is not relevant to the questions asked.

Well, it's one way to get his site up at google's rankings...
